Barack Obama at Occidental College, 1979

Barack Obama at Occidental College in 1979. Ripped this out of The Guardian magazine on Saturday.

Tomorrow I'm off to Italy for a week to eat my bodyweight in pasta and cherry tomatoes.

Truman Capote at home in Amagansett, NY

So apparently being a fan of stuff on Facebook has more uses than just asserting to your peers you have good taste in music, books and film. I knew I 'liked' Truman Capote for a reason and it was proven recently when a post came up on my feed with photographs taken of Capote's beach house in The Hamptons for Architectural Digest in 1965. Not only is the outside facade utterly incredible, the teak bookcases, whitewashed walls and primary colours indoors have led me to keep all of these photos open on my desktop for a constant flick-through for weeks now.

Oh, and if noseying through famous people's bedrooms (MTV Cribs anyone?) interests you as much as it does me, I direct you towards this Apartment Therapy article featuring the bedrooms of 15 famous writers - Faulkner is my favourite.

Pears

Somehow this week I've ended up with an over-abundance of ripe pears which I'm slowly working my way through. So far I've eaten them with cous-cous and crumbled blue cheese, sliced into porridge with maple syrup and atop a bowl of rhubarb yoghurt with some sliced almonds. I think I'll poach the remaining few, Rose Bakery style, with sugar and lemon juice tonight.

Jean Shrimpton, Telegraph Magazine 1973

Jean Shrimpton on her family farm in Burnham, Buckinghamshire. Photographed by The Telegraph Magazine, 1973. Original Scans Courtesy of Emma Peel.

There is something so lovely about the less-lacquered Jean of the early 1970s that really appeals to me. The sturdy yet pretty maxidresses in heavy velour and cotton teamed with sensible shoes are everything I want to be wearing in Spring.
